If you want to turn your brain off one day a week for an hour at a time, ABC’s hit show The single person found his new star: a native of Eureka, Missouri. Confirmed by the network last night, ex-Bachelorette contestant Clayton Echard will adorn the small screen depicting his Missouri roots.
“I’m just a guy from the Midwestern Missouri looking to find love,” Echard said in his season preview.
The announcement did not shock some viewers – Eureka Mayor Sean Flower posted on Facebook in September about the show recording some scenes in town and a crowd had gathered to fire Echard.
The premise of the show is that 30 people date one person, then each week the leader cuts down on applicants, and the show usually ends with an engagement. Echard first appeared on screen for the current season of The bachelorette, but didn’t win a rose last week from Michelle Young.
Echard placed seventh, not quite reaching the dates the leader visits hometowns, so the Bachelor franchise will never experience the grandeur of the Ark or the City Museum. ABC had listed fun facts about Echard before airing Young’s season; he has a rapper alter ego named “Clay-Doh”, had a mohawk in college, and wants to own multiple gyms. They also described him as a “Missouri Thoroughbred,” so uh, do whatever you want with that.
The new star has made his way to Missouri; he played football at Eureka High School, then at the University of Missouri Columbia and now resides in Lake St. Louis.
