The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) seeks applicants for its publication program to support scientific publications resulting from the applicant’s own research and to expand knowledge of nature conservation in developing countries in the region Asia Pacific.

Funding Information

The maximum grant size in this program is 1,000,000 Japanese yen per project for a maximum duration of one year.

Eligible expenses

The program bears only: the cost of printing, including design and layout; and the cost of distribution within the applicant’s country.

Target countries and regions

The target countries in the Asia-Pacific region are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Palau, Papua New -Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Vietnam.

Eligibility criteria
  • A candidate must:
    • be a national of a developing country in the Asia-Pacific region
    • be a researcher/scientist working full-time and conducting research in a relevant research institute or organization in one of the countries
    • be the author of the proposed publication with a single author or the first author of the proposed publication with multiple authors
    • have the ability to communicate in English
    • have no other applications submitted to the NEF at the time of application submission;
    • do not have other ongoing NEF-funded projects at the time of application submission.
  • The applicant’s co-author(s) must:
    • be a national of a developing country in the Asia-Pacific region
    • be a researcher/scientist working full-time and conducting research in a relevant research institute or organization in one of the countries
    • have no other applications submitted to the NEF at the time of application submission;
    • do not have other ongoing NEF-funded projects at the time of application submission.
  • A proposed publication must:
    • be on the theme of nature conservation (e.g. the natural environment, its conservation and sustainable use, etc.) of the country where the applicant/co-author(s) is currently working;
    • be printed as book material;
    • be derived from the nominee/co-author(s) own research on a particular nature conservation topic;
    • be expected to deepen and broaden knowledge about the natural environment and its conservation on the part of the general public, the local community and/or the scientific community;
    • be written in English or in both English and the national language of the applicant;
    • have no copyright issues;
    • be published within a year, as planned.
  • Please note:
    • the candidate must write a complete manuscript before submitting his application;
    • the manuscript must include a set of primary source documents or data from the candidate/co-author(s) own research; and
    • the manuscript should be proofread by colleagues or other professionals who are native English speakers or proficient in English writing prior to submission of the application.
