TOWNSEND — Author Erin Petti, a writer specializing in stories for young people, will lead a three-week program for children ages 8 to 12 that will guide them through the steps of writing their own book.

The group will meet for three sessions from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursdays July 7, July 14 and July 28 (no classes July 21) at Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road.

Petti is the author of “The Peculiar Haunting of Thelma Bee” and the upcoming sequel “Thelma Bee in Toil and Treble,” publishing a story Sept. 6 about 11-year-old budding scientist Thelma Bee, who along with she teams up with fellow ghost hunters, must battle supernatural enemies in their hometown of Riverfish, Mass.

The latest book is already receiving praise with Kirkus Book Reviews declaring “Thelma Bee in Toil and Treble” filled with “amusing supernatural thrills”.

She is a certified yoga teacher, has a Masters in Education and a background in improv comedy. She lives in New England with her human family, dog, cat, and noisy chickens. Her interests include doing lots of yoga, enjoying all things Lord of the Rings, and spending time with her daughters.

“I hope this program will encourage kids to find their own creative voice and let it sing,” Petti said. “Everyone has a story inside of themselves, and I’m so excited to help these young authors bring theirs to the world.”
