Shares of Alphabet outperformed the S&P 500 over the past year (+37% vs. +16.8%), and the momentum should continue after the successful December quarter results. The Zacks analyst believes Alphabet has benefited from a dominant position in the search market, an expanding cloud footprint and a stronger presence in the smart home market.

Alphabet reported strong fourth-quarter results, in which profits and revenue grew year-over-year. Strong momentum in search, advertising, cloud and YouTube supported results. Major updates in its search segment have improved search results. The focus on AI techniques and the home automation space is expected to drive long-term business growth.

T-Mobile shares have gained +4.1% year-to-date against the industry’s +3.3% rise in Zacks National Wireless. After its merger with Sprint, TMUS is offering its existing services at a reduced rate and will continue to do so for the next three years.

The Zacks analyst believes that the new entity’s network, which has 14 times more capacity than on a standalone basis, allowed it to outpace the competition in terms of network capacity and customer experience.

T-Mobile’s 5G Ultra Capacity covered 210 million people and 5G Extended Range covered 94% of people at the end of 2021. TMUS, however, operates in a fiercely competitive and nearly saturated US telecommunications market. Promotional activities aimed at attracting competitors’ customers have also weighed on its margins.

Shares of Advanced micro-systems gained +6.9% over the last six months against computer software industry Zacks’ +2.2% gain. The Zacks analyst believes AMD benefited from strong performance in its Computing and Graphics, and Enterprise Embedded and Semi-Custom segments.

The growing proliferation of AI and machine learning in industries such as cloud, gaming and supercomputing remains a tailwind. The growing influence of 7 nanometer (nm) products in the data center vertical, driven by work-from-home and e-learning trends, is a key enabler. AMD provided strong revenue guidance for 2022 thanks to robust growth across all businesses.
