Shares of Pfizer outperformed Zacks Large Cap Pharmaceuticals’ industry over the past year (+48.1% vs. +35.8%), with the company’s industry-leading Covid vaccines/treatments driving momentum. The vaccine combined with Pfizer’s promising oral antiviral pill for COVID-19, Paxlovid, is expected to generate combined sales of $54 billion in 2022.
Pfizer has a sustainable pipeline with several late-stage programs that can drive growth. However, currency headwinds and pricing pressure are the main revenue headwinds. Concerns remain about its long-term growth drivers beyond its COVID-related products due to competitive pressure.

Shares of Charles Schwab outperformed the Zacks Financial – Investment Banking sector over the past year (+21.0% vs -0.7%). The Zacks analyst believes the strategic acquisitions have strengthened Schwab’s position as a major brokerage player. The same will likely have an accretive effect on earnings. The commission-free trading offer has resulted in an increase in client assets and brokerage accounts, thereby improving trading revenue.
Schwab’s efficient capital deployments reflect a strong balance sheet position, through which it will increase shareholder value. However, despite expectations of some rate hikes, relatively low interest rates will likely continue to hurt margins in the near term. High operating expenses could hamper the growth of the company’s results to some extent.

Valley Shares have gained +22.9% over the past year versus +8.2% for the S&P 500 index on the mining giant’s exposure to favorable price prospects for iron ore, copper and nickel. The Zacks analyst believes the company should end this year with higher production capacity, after the ramp-up of tailings filtration plants at the Itabira and Brucutu sites and their respective additions in storage capacity residues.
Efforts to improve productivity, introduce better quality ores to the market and control costs will also boost its results. On the strength of its strong cash flow, Vale continues to reduce its debt level while continuing to invest in projects that will drive the company’s growth. Vale has signed an agreement to sell its coal business to focus on its core business and become a leading low-carbon mining company.
